Helping Others Without Letting Them Know

With it coming up on the Christmas Season very soon, there are so many worthwhile charities that need our help. It's so hard to decide which to give to and sometimes the simplest act of giving to an individual in need can get forgotten.

One of my favorite charitable acts was one that my husband did not too long ago. We were in line at the grocery store and there was this little old man who had only a few items. Once the cashier rang the man's items up he counted out his change but he came up short. Now, we could have given the cashier the rest of the money, but my husband thought it might embarrass the elderly gent. So, he dropped a twenty dollar bill down on the floor next to the man and then bent down and picked it up and handed it to him. He told the older man that he must have dropped it. I'm sure the elderly man knew he hadn't dropped that much money, but he accepted it gratefully and was able to pay for his purchases and be on his way. That was my favorite charitable act and one that both my husband and I have repeated several times.

The Pay It Forward Giveaway
Sweet Grove is a small town with a Texas-sized heart, but the spirit of the community goes well beyond the town limits. The authors in the First Street Church Kindle Worlds community have shown you how they've changed their characters' lives for the better.

Now they want to share about real organizations that are dear to their hearts, because they change real people's lives for the better.

All the best...
Mary Alford

  3. That is what we have been doing here in Amarillo, TX. I had a gentleman pay for my groceries one day. I cried and ask if I could hug him. He was so sweet. God sent him because I was having a hard time that month.

    1. kcharlton, those are all great things to do. Sometimes, the local community giving gets lost during the holidays. There's so much need everywhere.

  6. This message is from Nora Barteau:
I feel we need to pay it forward but it can be hard to do it. I have lost my 29 year old son and my mom in the past four months. It is so hard to be optimistic and wanting to give of yourself to others when I feel I am so empty that I need to feed myself in some way.

    1. Nora, so sorry to hear about your son and mom. Losing a loved one leaves us feeling empty for a long time. Take care of yourself. I'm praying for you.

  10. I love what your husband did and I have paid for or paid for part of others orders but never thought about it the way your husband did. But from now on I'm going to do it your husband's way so I don't take the chance of embarrassing someone or making them feel negative. Thank you for sharing that.
